“I was always obsessed with shoes,” said Giuseppe Zanotti in 2014, the year of the brand’s 20th anniversary. To celebrate, Zanotti introduced a special footwear collection, a ready-to-wear capsule collection, and a line of handbags.
The Italian-born shoemaker began his career as a freelance shoe designer in the 1980s. and eventually purchased a shoe factory to manufacture his own designs. But in addition to the obvious shoe workshop, the brand also had divisions which produced jewels, heels and embroidery.
In 1994, Zanotti presented his inaugural collection for the namesake brand in New York, and soon after, celebs from Madonna to Beyoncé and from Jennifer Lopez to Eva Herzigova could be counted amongst the brand’s clientele. The brand quickly became known for its towering, sexy heels, including the signature “Cruel” sandals above.
Giuseppe Zanotti’s first boutique was opened in Milan in 2000, and the brand now has over 100 flagship stores in cities around the world. They also produce over 600,000 pairs of shoes annually.
In 2010, a jewelry line was added to the brand, and they have continued their expansion ever since. In 2012, a men’s line was added, and in 2016, kids’ shoes.
