Limited Editions for the
Lunar New Year

Gucci Doraemon Main

Lunar New Year begins on February 12th, and there are so many eye-catching Year of the Ox offerings this year! From watches and jewelry to bags and skin care, we’re seeing red all over the place—in the best way possible. (Red symbolizes luck and happiness in Chinese culture.) We’ve rounded up some of the season’s best finds, to make adding something new to your wardrobe a breeze.

JEWELRY

Fabergé’s Heritage Yellow Gold Diamond and Red Guilloché Enamel Year Of The Ox Surprise Locket, like all pieces from the storied jeweler, is a work of art. It may be tiny (the locket is 22mm), but it’s every bit as intricate, opulent and complex as you’d expect from anything called “Fabergé. If casual is more your game, Dior has you covered with its new Diorelita Bracelet. Part of its Hibiscus Lunar New Year Capsule (more below), the bracelet is delicate and simple, and features a red, waxed cotton cord, a red and gold-tone lacquered hibiscus flower, and a “CD” charm. Totally understated, it can definitely be worn year-round. Meanwhile, Annoushka’s Mythology 18ct Gold Red Envelope Ox Charm Necklace is so literal. This 14k gold and red enamel envelope charm is inspired by the red envelopes filled with money and gifted during the holiday, symbolizing good wishes, luck and happiness for the year ahead.

HANDBAGS

Dior’s Hibiscus Lunar New Year Capsule actually comprises so much more than just the Diorelita Bracelet above. Ranging from bags to sweaters, and from sneakers to scarves, the floral pattern is inspired by the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, or “China rose.” We think the Book Tote is the perfect showcase for the motif. Meanwhile, at Mulberry, it’s a knot that’s featured on its iconic Portobello Tote (in Lipstick Red Heavy Grain). Special knots are often incorporated into good luck charms in Chinese culture, and the brand reinterpreted traditional knotting techniques for the collection. Probably the most whimsical and charming of all the Lunar New Year Capsules is Doraemon x Gucci. Encompassing almost 60 pieces, (like this Small Backpack), the collection commemorates the beloved manga character’s 50th anniversary, and is a fabulous celebration of this too cute cat robot.

WATCHES

Like Gucci, Louis Vuitton has also taken the fun route! Its Tambour Horizon Monogram smartwatch now includes 12 new dials, encompassing the whole Chinese zodiac. Each tiny animal is adorably animated, and the friendliest of companions on your wrist, just hanging out in front of a red and gold LV Monogram face. For more serious collectors, think: Harry Winston. Limited to just eight pieces (of course, because eight is considered a lucky number in Chinese culture), the super luxury jeweler launched its Premier Chinese New Year Ox Automatic, with a vivid red mother-of-pearl face, rose gold, and plenty of diamonds (because, of course, Harry Winston.) Offering just a few more than eight pieces (38, to be precise), Piaget’s Altiplano features a case in 18k white gold, set with 78 brilliant-cut diamonds and a cloisonné enamel ox on the face. We love how dynamic the artwork is, with the well-muscled bovine appearing to want to burst off your wrist.

ADDITIONALLY…

But wait, there’s more, including offerings in beauty and home! Charlotte’s Lucky New Year Beauty Secrets Face Kit by Charlotte Tilbury includes the brand’s award-winning, Magic Cream Moisturizer and a tube of Lunar New Year Lipstick in limited-edition red and gold starburst packaging. And we’re going to go ahead and confess that when we think of Off-White, “homeware” is not what comes immediately to mind. But this CNY Ceramic Tea Set, including four cups and a teapot, is so simple and delightful that we’re sold. Finally, Laura Mercier has two items in limited-edition Lunar New Year packaging: Set for Luck Setting Powder with Puff and Lucky Rouge Lipstick. Says the brand, “Our bestselling products wrapped up to celebrate a year full of good fortune, happiness, and wealth.” Cheers to that!
